Services for Students

Career and Personal Counseling
Career, academic and personal counseling are available from a guidance counselor. Students may make appointments for one-on-one career and personal counseling at any time. Counselors can assist with a variety of problems and make referrals to community resources. Student Services will make an effort to connect the student with outside resources, which will meet their personal needs.

Make an appointment in the counseling services office to see a counselor if you have any concerns.

There are many community agencies in the Weston-Finch area which can help with resume writing, job search, goal-setting, etc. Several web sites are helpful for self-assessment.

There are also excellent resources to assist with the challenges facing new immigrants, the unemployed or the single parent. We will assist students with immediate needs and then often refer to an agency. See list of agencies.

Day Care

The Emery Child Care Centre is operated by the Children's Services Division of Metro Toronto. To apply for daycare, pick up an application form at the Intake Office at 2363 Finch Avenue West or phone 392-KIDS and an application will be mailed to you.

Information Centre

The Information Centre, located on the second floor, has over 18,000 books, 60 magazines, videos and audio books collections, and a vertical file which contains pamphlets, newspaper clippings and magazine articles. It also has an online catalogue which provides speedy access to the collection and a CD ROM network which allows you to search electronically for information from a variety of sources. There are 60 computers available for student use, each with internet access. There is also a photocopier.

Individually and in groups, students receive instruction in research techniques and assistance with selecting reading materials. There are individual study carrels and a seminar room for group work. Here you can find information, study quietly, make copies, borrow materials, or reserve items.

Parking

All parking spaces on the Emery school property are reserved. Students may park only in the Hydro lot and the Habitant Arena Parking Lot. Students are encouraged to use TTC

Salon Services

Experienced cosmetology students provide hairdressing (including perms and colour) and other aesthetic services for a nominal charge. For an appointment or more information, call the Emery Salon, New Creations, at 395-3225, Ext. 20145
